Lawrence Sullivan Ross "Sul" 1838-1898 The university is named after Lawrence Sullivan "Sul" Ross. He was a Texas Ranger, Civil War general, Governor of Texas and, later, President of Texas A&M University. Sul Ross attended Baylor University He nearly lost his life during a battle with Comanches. As a Texas Ranger, he served in Young County and the surrounding area. Do you think he ate at our Dairy Queen?
