1. My native town – Naberezhnye Chelny: focus on history

2. What do you know about the history of your town?

3.  The earliest settlers no the banks of the Kama appeared in 1626. They were peasants headed by Fyodor Popov.

4.  The village changed several names: Chalninsky Pochinok, Mysovye Chelny, Chalninsky Gorodok (in 1650).

5.  In 1886 the village was called Berezhnye Chelny. It had a port, a church, a mill, a market.  In 1897 the population of Berezhnye Chelny was 1726.

7.  The first one-class school was opened in 1826.  Before the revolution Tatar pupils studied in schools at mosques.  After the revolution they could go to rural schools where the training was in Russian.

8. The elevator of Chelny  It was built in 1914-1917 by almost 200 prisoners.  It was comissioned by the State Bank of Russia Empire.  The first director of the enterprise was V.K.Antonevich.

9.  Terrible famine started in 1921 in the Volga region as a result of bad harvest and the food stocks absence.  11 499 people died of starvation and typhoid.  People ate cats, dogs, died animals and birds.  1922 was crop year

10.  After the establishment of Soviet power, in August, 10, 1930 Naberezhnye Chelny got the status of the town.

11.  In 1930 Naberezhnye Chelny was a small provincial town with existing elevator, the timber plant “Respublikanetz”, the State Bank, a hospital, several schools, a church, a postal-telegraph office,

12. Centralnaya Street  It was the economic and administrative center.  Offices of biggest trading trading houses were there: “I.G.Staheev and Sons”, “I.A.Bushmatin with Sons”, “A.K.Bautin`s Successors”

13. Centralnaya Street  There were the State Bank, the Fire tower, shops, barns, bakeries, grain-drayers, taverns, dining- halls.

14. KamAZ  With the beginning of KamAZ construction in 1969 Naberezhnye Chelny was gradually becoming a modern city.

15. Since 1963 KamAZ has been one of the largest plants in the Russian Federation

16. Nowadays Chelny is a modern town with the population more than half a million people
