The word Fungus comes from Latin word meaning sponge.The plural of fungus is fungi.Mushroom,toadstool,mildew and mould are all kinds of fungus.Like plants,fungi often grow in soil but they cannot make food from sunlight.The stalk and the head of the toadstool are the fungi's fruiting body .This releases tiny seedcake spores.New fungus grow from these.Fungi begin to reproduce when one mass of underground threads meet another of the same species they grow and produce a new fruiting body.There are fungi of all shapes and sizes, some are nice to eat but most are so poisonous they will kill.
