Morning Routine Unpack book bag Turn in homework, notes, etc.
Put away folders Start morning work Morning Work Copy the night’s homework into their planners Activities are designed to reinforce skills that have been introduced to the class during a formal lesson May be reviewed or they will turn in their assignment and it will be graded, corrected and then sent home

Morning Meeting About 10-15 minutes Schedule and Calendar/math review
Discuss any important class issues or events Opportunity to share and build classroom community

Literacy Block (Reading, Phonics, Spelling, Writing)
Daily 5/CAFÉ Read to self, listen to reading, word work, work on writing, read with partner, and meet with teacher Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expand Vocabulary Engage NY Listening and Learning Modules will be used as primary Reading instruction Writing Literature responses and thematic writing Reading Street series will be used to teach writing styles, conventions, and punctuation

Literacy Block cont. Phonics 1 concept introduced each week
Reinforced through reading curriculum, spelling, and Daily 5 activities Spelling 15 words weekly (12 phonics skill words, 3 high frequency words from Dolch and Fry lists) Word of the Week – 5 point bonus opportunity Spelling homework done in spelling journal (Mon-Thur) Test on Friday morning

Snack Snack around 10:00 each day Prayers and bathroom
10 minutes to eat 1 snack and one drink

Math Engage NY Modules will be used to teach Math (handout for year topics) Lessons will include 4 parts: fluency practice, concept development, application problems, and student debriefing Hands-on and interactive activities Parent meeting will be held before beginning of each new module Homework will coordinate with day’s Math lesson

Religion Taught daily using Religion textbook First Communion
Religion curriculum will be sent home Tests will be mostly take home and will include chapter “packet” First Communion Mass on Monday at 8:00 (please remember dress uniform)

Pack Up and Dismissal Empty mailbox and put papers in folder
Put planner on desk Color day Pack up and sit at seat until dismissed Read Aloud/Smartboard activity until dismissal Please remember a note if your child is going something different than usual

Rules for the carpet Main behavior goal = treat others the way you want to be treated Clip Chart Each level is a different degree of behavior Green or better is a good day and students can move multiple times a day Classroom Pom Poms Whole class reward; working together toward a goal Can earn pom poms in classroom, specials, hall, or mass Rewards include extra recess, treasure box, movie, ice cream, “break the rules day”
