3 KARWAR ULTRA MEGA THERMAL POWER PROJECT EVACUATION CHALLENGES  ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES  KARWAR IS IN COASTAL SURROUNDED BY DENSE FORESTS –FOREST CLEARANCE APPROVALS – LONGER LEAD TIMES –NECESSITATES QUICK FINANCIAL TIE- UPS AND STATUTORY APPROVALS –MAY REQUIRE USE OF MULTI CIRCUIT TOWERS TO CONSERVE ROW

4 KARWAR ULTRA MEGA THERMAL POWER PROJECT EVACUATION CHALLENGES  TECHNICAL ISSUES  LOAD-LOAD GROWTH IN NORTH COASTAL KARNATAKA NOT COMMENSURATE WITH THE GENERATION ADDITION.  LOAD CENTRES ARE TOWARDS SOUTH – BANGALORE-MYSORE-MANGALORE- HASSAN.  BANGALORE LOADS GROWING AT A PHENOMENAL RATE (15%).

5 EVACUATION STRATEGIES CORE ISSUES  EVACUATION FOR A 4000 MW STATION NEEDS TO BE ROBUST  LOAD CENTRES ARE FAR AWAY NECESSIATING A NEED FOR LONG LINES  HOLISTIC PLANNING:-SHOULD BLEND IN WITH THE EXISTING SCHEME FOR ECONOMY AND BETTER CORRIDOR UTILIZATION  VOLTAGE LEVELS:- –765 KV LINES
