M. Takahashi, 21 January, 2016 Station Acceptance (SA)
2
11/05/2006 Imperial College London 2 Space Source X-Y stage Station and source holders Light-tight box with patch panel waveguides, connectors (Readout and DAQ System) What we need
3
11/05/2006 Imperial College London 3 Station acceptance (SA) test carried out at Imperial College Rm537 (former CMS crystal lab) –allocated for MICE –still needs to be cleared out… (some CMS crystal-related things will be removed shortly, so there will be enough space for TA test) Basement –enough space but people from other experiments would enter The apparatus will sit on top of a table for easy access At least one yellow light in the room over the light-tight box Space
4
11/05/2006 Imperial College London 4 Sketch of SA Setup patch panel to controller to VLPC garage position station holder + jig Station remains at a fixed position defined by the jig Source held by an extended arm firmly attached to the X-Y stage … scan across the station from the top surface stage
5
11/05/2006 Imperial College London 5 Radioactive sources at Imperial HEP (consultation with Mark Raymond) Co-60 (~1MeV) –available but not recommended… –the stage and the source holder have to support the shield would have to go for strength rather than precision Co-57 (122keV) –would be ok but not enough activities (months to arrive if we order) Am-241 (60keV) –sufficient supply Source
6
11/05/2006 Imperial College London 6 Programmable X-Y stage to move the source across the station plane (with flexibility for other future purposes) Stage –strength or precision? (because the source will be held on an extended arm, the stage needs to survive a large enough torque) Supplementaries: –motor –controller –linear encoder? (measures the actual position) Cost: stage+ motor + linear encoder + controller ~2k x 2+ ? + ~500 x 2+ ~1k = 7k GBP (better estimate due to arrive in few days) It will take 2,3 months to arrive X-Y Stage
7
11/05/2006 Imperial College London 7 Station & Source Holders station holder + jig stage Jig + holder for the station similar to those used for the assembly jig bolted onto the base of the light box Holder for the source arm + leg firmly attached to the stage hold source ~few cm above doublet layers ~40cm ~20cm adjustable ~5cm source holder ~5cm
8
11/05/2006 Imperial College London 8 Light box (needs to be ordered) >= 70cm(d) x 130cm(w) x 60cm(h) (doors on the front face) Heavy base with bolt holes Holes on the side walls –for patch panel: ~15cm x 25cm –for the stage controller cables: ~ Ø10cm with some kind of light seal Patch panel Light-tight Box and Patch Panel actual hole on the box bolt connector holes O-ring type sealing? light box front face
9
11/05/2006 Imperial College London 9 Internal waveguides –lengths: same for all for simplicity and flexibility 1m –connections to the station: probably better to connect them outside the light box (station held at 20cm, connectors still reachable if necessary) External waveguides ~1m Waveguides
10
11/05/2006 Imperial College London 10 Discuss if the plan is good enough and feasible + finalise the details Which source and stage? place an order Reference measurement for the source Position survey system (doing this from data is enough?) Independent measurement of the station position/orientation with respect to the source To Do
