1 “Jesus, here we come”

2 AD 2200: Alan, Ann & Sam are going to Newcastle –Zoe said, “Alan and Ann and Sam are going to Newcastle today” –Yasmin said, “Alan and Ann and Sam are going to Newcastle but they are staying over in a hotel for a while on the way” –Xerxes said, “Alan and Ann and Sam are going to Newcastle, but Sam will sleep so he’ll not notice the journey” –Wendy said, “Alan and Ann and Sam are travelling in their time machine to Newcastle, so as soon as they leave they will arrive” Who is right? What does each person assume?

3 What we all believe –Christians believe that we are going to a future of unimpaired communion with God and perfect harmony with others. This life is portrayed variously and evocatively as a celebration banquet (Matt. 8:11; 22:2; 25:10; cf. Rev. 19:9), an inheritance (Matt. 25:34), a secure city (Heb. 11:10; 12:22–24), and above all as eternal life.
