7 Trends that make in decision making :  There are too many alternatives, scenarios and risks to consider  Many decisions must be made under time pressure  Due to increased fluctuations and uncertainty in the decision environment, it is frequently necessary to conduct a sophisticated analysis.

8 Trends that make in decision making :  Decision making frequently requires an organization to conduct a forecast of prices, market share and so on. Reliable requires analytical & statistical tools.  Decision makers can be in different locations as can the information. Bringing them all together quickly and inexpensively may be a difficult task

9  Can examine numerous alternatives very quickly  Supports forecasting  Provide systematic risk analysis  Be integrated with communication systems & databases  Support group work

10  Automation of certain tasks can save time, increase consistency and enable better decisions to be made.  The more tasks we can automate, the better.  But even if we completely automate their decisional role, we cannot automate their jobs. Can the Manager’s Job Be Fully Automated

12 Decision support system (DSS) - an organized collection of people, procedures, software, databases, and devices working to support managerial decision making Group decision support system (GDSS) - also called a computerized collaborative work system, consists of most of the elements in a DSS, plus software needed to provide effective support in group decision-making settings Executive support systems (ESSs) - specialized decision support systems designed to meet the needs of senior management
