1 The Lymphatic System Arinze,Lilianna,Drew,Kaelyn
2
The functions of the Lymphatic System Where lymph comes from The role of lymph organs About lymph nodes Lymphatic disease Results of lymphatic system failure What You’ll Learn!
3
Dissolved substances become part of fluid tissue Helps defend diseases Purpose of Lymphatic system
4
Lymphatic System: collects fluid from body tissue spaces, and returns it to the blood through lymph capillaries and lymph vessels;plays a vital role in protecting against infection. Lymph: tissue fluid that has moved around cells, and into lymph vessels; consists mostly of water, dissolved substances, and lymphocytes. Lymphocyte: type of white blood cell produced by the lymphatic system that fights infections, and foreign materials that enter the body. It’s located in the bone marrow. Glossary
5
Lymph nodes: bean-shaped structures found throughout the body that filter out microorganisms, and foreign materials that enter the body. Biopsy: a medical test involving the removal of cells and tissues. Glosssary part 2
6
Tonsils and spleen Thymus gland Thoracic duct Bone marrow Lymphatic organs Lymphatic organs
7
Filter out microorganisms and foreign materials Bean shaped structure Help fight infections In the organ of the immune system Can be diagnosed by a biopsy Can be fatal Lymph nodes
8
HIV With fewer T cells, less able to fight Death risk Cold can be serious Disease of Lymphatic System
9
Acts like your personal security guards Does not allow invasion Helps protect against diseases. Why it’s imporant.
