2 What is Indicator 13?

3 “Percent of youth with IEPs aged 16 and above with an IEP that includes appropriate measurable postsecondary goals that are annually updated and based upon an age appropriate transition assessment, transition services, including courses of study, that will reasonably enable the student to meet those postsecondary goals, and annual IEP goals related to the student’s transition services needs.

4 …Indicator 13: There also must be evidence that the student was invited to the IEP Team meeting where transition services are to be discussed and evidence that, if appropriate, a representative of any participating agency was invited to the IEP Team meeting with the prior consent of the parent or student who has reached the age of majority.” (20 U.S.C. 1416(a)(3)(B))

5 How does Arkansas rate with Indicator 13? At reporting time last year: 80% in compliance January 2010—93% in compliance according to ADE, SEU Data and Research

6 How can you ensure compliance? Request training from Arkansas Transition Services –Transition Toolkit Training –File Reviews –Consults Use the Indicator 13 checklist –Developed by NSTTAC –Approved by OSEP –Used nationwide –AR Transition Goals and Services developed in direct correlation with checklist –Monitoring team trained to use it on monitoring visits

13 Post Secondary Goal Education and Training Goal (for student with severe disability) After graduation, David will participate in a center-based program designed to teach daily living skills along with community and social integration.

14 Post Secondary Goal Education and Training: Upon graduation from high school, Stephanie will attend Trident Technical College and participate in the culinary arts industry certificate program meeting the requirements to attain an Entry Level Food Service Certificate.

15 Post Secondary Goal Independent Living Upon completion of high school, Stephanie will independently prepare for work each day, including dressing, making her bed, and making her lunch.
