C.H. Spurgeon “True religion is heart-work. We may wash the outside of the cup and the platter as long as we please, but if the inward parts be filthy, we are filthy altogether in the sight of God; for our hearts are more truly ourselves than our hands are; the very life of our being lies in the inner nature…”

29 Within the cavalcade of sin is Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
10
O O P s O O P s !! Our Own Plans “…Look! I am preparing a disaster for you and devising a plan against you. So turn from your evil ways, each one of you, and reform your ways and your actions.’ (12) But they will reply; ‘It’s no use. We will continue with our own plans; each of us will follow the stubbornness of his evil heart.” Jeremiah 18:11-12
11
The chilling Matter of the Heart “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? “I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct according to what his deeds deserve.” Jeremiah 17:9-10
12
King David “A man after God’s own heart.” “He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?” declares the LORD. Jeremiah 22:16 your heart (17) “But your eyes and your heart are set only on dishonest gain…”
13
“Don’t you know who I Am?” -The Potter Jeremiah 18:1-10 “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?” declares the LORD. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.”
14
Valley of Ben Hinnom “Valley of wrecked plans” Jeremiah 19 “In this place I will ruin the plans of Judah and Jerusalem. I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies…break the jar while those who go with you are watching, and say to them “’This is what the LORD Almighty says: I will smash this nation and this city…” 19:7
15
And so it comes to pass… Jeremiah has been abused and despised and plotted against, put in the stocks, beaten…and in Jeremiah chapter 21, it happens, the assault on Jerusalem, the exile. Don’t you and I get “caught slipping”, or wear out in our Living Faith, in glowing, going and growing!
16
Jeremiah’s Lament “it happens to the best of us” Jeremiah 20:7-9 WHAT’S IN YOUR HEART? heart “So the Word of the LORD has brought me insult and reproach all day long. But if I say, “I will not mention Him or speak any more in His name,” His word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in, indeed, I cannot.”
17
Jeremiah 24:6-7 “Good Figs” “My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back to this land. I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them. I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart.”
18
II Chronicles 16:9 “For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those who hearts are fully committed to Him…”
19
The Apostle Paul II Timothy 2:22 “Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the LORD out of a pure heart.”
20
The heart of the matter is a matter of the Heart Jeremiah 29:11-13 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
