Introduction Nautical Publications Charts are not enough! We need more information. Publications provide textual information for: Voyage planning. Reference while conducting a voyage. Often paper & electronic versions.

CHANGE IN FORMAT Current USCG Light Lists show the Position (column 3) in degrees-minutes-seconds (to 3 decimal places) for much greater precision The Light List Reprints use the old Position (column 3) format of degrees-minutes (to 1 decimal place) where positional error could be up to approximately 300+ feet

EXAMPLE Chesapeake Light Reprint LL shows LL No. 355 (Column 1):
LAT º 54.3´ N LONG º 42.8´ W Current LL shows LL No. 360 (Column 1): LAT º- 54´ ´´ N LONG 075º- 42´ ´´ W Note that the Light List Number has changed even though it is the same Aid to Navigation
