AIMS FOR THIS SESSION Clarifying the framework for International Week 2013 Defining sub-groups and dividing students in them Agreeing about how to proceed

FRAMEWORK FOR INTERNATIONAL WEEK 2013 Theme: innovations Timing: 4.-8.3.2013 (week 10) Locations – Mannerheimintie, Vanha Viertotie, Sofianlehdonkatu Funding – Sending organisation: salary, travel and accomodation costs for lecturers (often EU funds utilised) – Metropolia: lunches, dinner, sight seeing tour – No funding for students (!!)

TENTATIVE DIVISION OF LABOUR (1) Students – Innovating new contents and ways to arrange the International Week – Planning preparations in co-operation with teachers, international working group and co-ordinator, METKA, Metropolia Communications and Marketing, media, Helsinki tourist information, etc. – Participating in the implementation of the IW Please note: also other students are invited to assist in arrangements

SOME IDEAS FROM FIRST SESSION Meet and greet –event for lecturers and students Participatory workshops in addition to lectures Ensuring students’ participation by a ”compulsory choice” Making use of social media in marketing Some parts arranged as a web conference from distance? Inviting students and hosting them in homes … what else?

BRAINSTORMING EXERCISE In groups of 3-4 persons think about what could be done in a new, ”funny”, ”crazy” way in International Week 2013.

WORKING IN AN INNOVATIVE GROUP Lotte Darsø: ”Preject” stage before the actual project – Asking questions, wondering, nonlinear and processual thinking -> linear, goal oriented Different roles in ”preject” management – Gardener (puutarhuri): participant’s wellbeing, mutual trust, energy level, time out – Jester (narri): asking ”stupid” and ”crazy” questions, proposing ideas, asking what if – Challenger (haastaja): challenging knowledge, asking ”rude” questions (role emphasised towards the end) – Conceptualiser (konseptoija): clarifying, illustrating, making summaries, narrowing down, keeping an eye on the entity

GETTING ORGANISED Documentation of work in sub-groups – Processing documents in Google Docs – Making links to Metropolia’s wiki – Rotating secretary role PLEASE NOTE, anyone can have an access to the produced documents! Getting in contact with each other – Contact information list – Defining a contact person for both groups (who will participate also International meeting of the faculty 25.9. meeting at 15) Need for lap tops?

NEXT STEPS FOR SUB-GROUPS During autumn 2012 the aim is to – Create a plan for the International Week 2013 – Carry out preparations into extent possible In sub-groups create a tentative project plan including – Tasks – Division of labour – Co-operation partners – Schedule – Budget Make use of ideas generated by previous discussions At this stage you are welcome to explore also ”crazy”, courageous ideas!
