The principle is that it is much easier to move the trim tab than the larger rudder. When the trim tab moves it creates turbulence and that turbulence makes it easier for the main rudder to be moved in the same direction. forces on a trim tab are great – leading edge, turbulence, etc – but it makes turning the boat much easier. And so it is with leadership – someone must go first, and the one who leads is like a trim tab – experiencing resistance, forces, turbulence. But in the leader’s wake is a vacuum that makes it easier for others to follow – and the ship begins to turn… Someone has to go first…will you be that person?  Uniting diverse people towards one purpose.  It is taking the personal view of your vision and creating a shared view, a public view, of what is important, of what matters most.  The pathfinder is the one who brings focus and clarity to the road that lies ahead.  Pathfinding is hard work. 3. 1)Really evaluate yourself and how you handle conflict. If helpful use an analogy of an animal to describe how you respond. 2)Engage a trusted friend that you can discuss this with, and receive their observations of your behaviour. 3)Apply this to a current conflict. Think about : what principles are at stake what is really important (to you and the other person) what you need to own, what you need to set aside how to promote a resolution.
