* From the 1930’s untill his death, Stalin tried to boost morale and faith in the communist system by making himself look like a god to everyone else. * This “cult of personality” was ane more pilliar to support his absolute power.

* Joseph Stalin turned the soviet union into a totalitarian state. * In a Totalitarian state, a one-party dictatorship will attempt to regulate every aspect of the lives of its citizens.

* The communists replaced religion with their own ideology. * Like a religion, communist ideology had its own “sacred” text

* The Communists transformed Russian life. They destroyed the old social order of landowning nobles at the top and serfs at the bottom. * At the front of the society were members of the communist party. Only a small part of soviet citizens were allowed to join the party.

* The Bolshevik Revolution at first meant greater freedom for Russian artists and writers. * The government controlled what books were published, what music was heard, and which works of art were put on display.

* Strick censorship, huge propaganda, and terror were instruments used by Joseph Stalin to ensure personal power and to push the Soviet union toward modernization.
