Statement of Problem: Social networking is becoming more and more popular and some teenagers, more specifically RI year 2's, have shown decline in their academic grades. This may be resulted from frequent usage of Facebook games and the addiction to it.

Our purpose of study is to: a. Find out if addiction to Facebook affects RI year 2's academic grades. b. Evaluate their degree of addiction c. Find out if there are other games or activities RI year 2's are addicted to d. Find out why Facebook is so appealing to RI year 2's. e. Find out the methods to curb the addiction to Facebook games f. Help RI year 2's to understand the harms and consequences of them being addicted to Facebook. g. Find out if Facebook games is the real reason behind any decline in academics.

A response rate of 100% was achieved from the survey. Age group: 13-14 (RI Secondary 2 students) Gender: Male Number of respondents: 20 Information regarding our survey with RI Sec 2s’ students

1. We came out with some survey questions and selected the best 10 questions among all. 2. We printed out twenty copies of the survey itself. 3. During recess time, we survey the 20 RI sec 2 students. 4. We then keyed in the results of the survey. Procedures

1. 10 questions were to be asked during the interview. 2. We edited the questions and emailed Mr. Leo. 3. After he agreed, we interviewed him on 14/03/2011 in the chat room and we recorded down his answer to our questions. 4. We then made a transcript and we keyed in the essential information into the computer. Procedures

Results and Analysis Majority of the RI Sec 2s love to play Mousehunt and Backyard Monsters. We can conclude that RI Sec 2s play Facebook games that allow them to interact a lot with their friends.

Majority(45%) of the respondents play Facebook between 1 to 10 hours a week Nobody played Facebook for more than 20 hours a week. We can conclude that RI Sec 2s still have a chance to get addicted to Facebook games. Results and Analysis

Interview Results and Analysis Games—fun, higher level of contentment, ability to attract, causing addiction. Possible reasons of addictions to Facebook games a. Unhappy with their social life. b. Not very attached to others. c. Seeking thrills and challenges. Possible ways to curb addiction a. Have good relationships with others. b. Having cyber-wellness education. Playing games help in coordination of their eyes and fingers.

Aim on another social networking website. Government’s effort to help curb addiction. Why pupils do not consult the counselors even when they know that they are addicted to computer games.

In a nutshell: 1. By having a good relationship with one’s family and friends. One will not be addicted to any form of addiction, including Facebook Games addiction. 2. One is not addicted to Fcaebook Games if one spend time playing it everyday. 3. To stop oneself from thimking about Facebook and its Games, one should manage one’s time well and be engage in all kinds of activities.

In a nutshell: 4. We also hope that from this research, people will realize the effects of social networking sites and its games. 5. Lastly, we conclude that Facebook games generally do affect RI Year 2s’ students academic performance.
