Warblers and Caterpillars Warblers feed on caterpillars. However, because of temperature changes, the birds are moving north to stay in their normal temperature range. The caterpillars are not. Eventually, there will be no warblers to keep the caterpillars in check. (Rising Temperatures Spur Biological Chaos)

Edith’s Checkerspot Butterfly The plants that these butterflies lay their eggs on are drying up before the caterpillars hatch. This leaves no food for the caterpillars to eat once they emerge from their eggs. (Tangley)

Polar Bears Polar bears hunt seals by stalking them on the ice. The ice is melting, giving them less time to hunt. Bears today weigh less and give birth to fewer cubs than they did 20 years ago. For every week earlier that the ice breaks up sooner, polar bears are an average of 22 lbs. lighter. (Tangley) Back to Student 10 Home
