Fine Arts Program rated Recognized UIL Music Memory, UIL Art, BISD Art Competition, Charro Days Art Contest, Bus Safety Contest, Student International Art Show, RGV Birding Festival, and Fire Prevention Contest. Burns Elementary

Wellness and Physical Education Programs rated Recognized During the 2013-2014 school year, 100% of the campus participated in Red Ribbon week activities, students PK- 5 th participated in the CATCH program, students and staff participated in the March of Dimes & Autism Awareness walks, the campus hosted the Personal Alive Health screenings, and our students placed high with 1 st and 2 nd place ribbons at the elementary track meet. Community and Parental Involvement rated Acceptable During the 2013-2014 school year, the students and staff participated in community actives such as: The Superintendent's Toy Drive, Food Drive, March of Dimes, X-Mas Bazaar, and Noche Mexicana. By partnering with parents, we were able to increase the number of a student enrolled in tutorials. Burns Elementary

21 st Century Workforce Development rated Acceptable During the 2013- 2014 school year our students were able to visit the University of Texas- RGV (Brownsville campus). And our student were visited by our Career Day guest speakers. Burns Elementary

Dropout Prevention Strategies rated Recognized The attendance rate of the “At-Risk” population was greater than 80% during the 2013-2104 school year. This population was also being served with accelerated instruction and instructions intervention strategies to help them in their understanding and academic development. Burns Elementary

Second Language Acquisition Program Recognized During the 2013-2014 school year, our bilingual students and parents of bilingual students participated in Cinco de Mayo, Charro Days, Fire Prevention Month, Christmas Holiday, Parade of Characters, and Just Say no to Drugs activities. Burns Elementary

Digital Learning Environment rated Recognized At Burns campus resources are aimed at supporting technology integration into the campus, the TLI project has instituted a flipped classroom approach to instruction, and teachers have begun using digital forms of communication between students, parents, and the school. Gifted and Talented Program rated Acceptable At Burns our Gifted and Talented student population is identified and given the opportunity to showcase their talents in such events as the History Fair, Spelling Bee, Science fair, and academic UIL competitions. Burns Elementary
