Starter – Buddhists believe being reborn as a human is as likely as a blind turtle, swimming in a large ocean and surfacing once every hundred years, putting its head through a small golden ring on the surface of the water. Explain what this says about a Buddhist view on abortion? (3) Starter extension – jot down key Buddhist words that might be relevant here. What might a Buddhist do and why? Scenario 1 – A foetus at 8 weeks after conception is found to have a genetic defect that would mean it would be born deaf and blind. Scenario 2 – A pregnant woman feels she cannot financially or emotionally support a new baby. Scenario 3 – If an abortion is not performed, a woman’s life is at risk.
