School Ethos – ‘Aim high and achieve excellence’, inclusive, working together Role - Head of Alternative Provision SEN links – SENCO, Child Protection Officer, Inclusion Team SLT links – line managed and supported by Deputy Head HOL links – work very closely

Behaviour issues / difficulties Special Educational Needs Vulnerable learners Low self-esteem, self-belief and confidence Problematic home lives Students reintegrating back into mainstream Preparation for life after school

5 5 What does alternative look like at Hertswood in the different key stages? KS3 – Daily Programmes, 10 Week Programmes, BTEC Qualifications, Outdoor Expeditions, Virtual Learning Programmes KS4 – Year 11 Alternative Programme (GCSE English, Maths, Science, Citizenship, other GCSE options, Princes Trust, City & Guilds, INGOTS, Work Experience)

6 6 What interventions have been the most successful? Y11 Alternative Provision Programme Nurture Group 24 Hours in the Wild Building 1 Zone Eureka Tute Virtual Learning Programme Thai Curry Off Breakfast Club Cocoon Project (Please see appendix for full range of Alternative Provisions)

7 7 What are the plans for the future? Horticulture Qualification – Growing Education – January start 24 Hours in the Wild – expeditions in April & June Farmyard Fun World – December meeting Chilli Off KS3 Inclusion Project – Youth Connexions Continue with all previously mentioned successful provisions!

8 8 What are my top tips for other schools? Try new things and take a gamble! Trial and Error Individualised learning and outcomes Work closely with SLT, HOL, Inclusion team, parents– communication is key Triple Approach – Students, Parents, School Early intervention
