Green Wisdom There is so much pollution in the air that if it weren’t for our lungs, there would be no place to put it all! Robert Orben, USA comedy writer
4
Aims & Goals To determine the structure of air To find out if there are places on the Earth with clean air To research what pollutes air To learn how to keep air clean
5
Contents The structure of air The places with the cleanest air The factors polluting air: a)factories and plants b)transport c)nuclear power stations d)fires The measures preventing the air pollution
6
Nitrogen, 78% Oxygen, 20% Argon Carbon dioxide, 0,03 % Neon Methane Helium Krypton Hydrogen Xenon Water The Life on the Earth is impossible without air. What is air? It’s a mixture of different gases
7
In the forests, in the villages, in the mountains, near the waterfalls and after the thunderstorms air is very healthy
9
The development of civilization and industry was followed by the poisoning of the world's air
10
Cities suffer from smog. Just breathing the air becomes more life- threatening in many of the cities
11
The carbon dioxide from cars exhausts is seriously harming the air in the world. The most dangerous pollutant from cars is lead. Even small amounts can affect the brain and the nervous system of people
12
Certain pollutant gases including Chlorofluorocarbons are now destroying the ozone Since 1979, “holes” have appeared in the ozone layer – first over the Antarctic, then over the Arctic Because of the ozone holes the dangerous rays get through the atmosphere, causing skin cancer and other serious diseases
13
Acid rains fall when poisonous gases from power stations and vehicle exhausts mix with oxygen and moisture the air Acid rains kill wildlife It slowly destroys everything
14
Forests are the lungs of our planet. They help to slow down the effects of global warming by using carbon dioxide and giving out the oxygen The world’s largest rainforests supply about 80 % of the oxygen
15
Unfortunately, every year an area of rainforest as big as England and Wales disappears.
16
Forest fires break the ecological balance, pollute the air, and every day about 50 kinds of forest’s plants and animals become extinct
17
Conclusion To reduce air pollution people must: 1.Ask governments to undertake measures to rescue our planet 2.Look for ways to make factories and cars cleaner 3.Invent new kinds of fuel 4.Plant a lot of trees 5.Live in a harmony with the environment 6.Create an international system of ecological security
