3. To note: Some Direct Entry/Repeaters to final year need to see me as you have not been allocated projects (email me at baoyb@lsbu.ac.uk first and ONLY use your LSBU email). baoyb@lsbu.ac.uk The project list is on Moodle If you see your name on the list for a project then that is what you have been allocated

4. Project re-allocation If your supervisor was one of Goran Bezanov, Alan Howson, Shuwo Chen, Debashish Mukherjee, Tony Robert and Ka Lok Lee, you have been allocated to a new supervisor (highlighted in the list). You need to arrange an appointment with your new supervisor as early as possible to discuss your project.

5. Important Dates for BEng students PAF: Deadline Faculty office 4pm, 16 th /10/15 Week 3 S1 PROJECT Progression, Friday 4pm, 20 th /11/15 W8 5% Interim Report: Friday 4pm, 26 th /02/16 W4 S2.10% Final Report Soft (TurnitinUK) and 2 x hard copies to School Office (One copy to your supervisor, another copy to me) –Turnitinuk 4pm 29th/04/16, 4pm compulsory and plagiarism checked S2 –Report Hard copies 6/5/16, 4pm S2 65% –LogBook handed in with report to Supervisor 6/5/16 10% –Project meeting sheet 6/5/16 to me only Hardware/Software and Oral presentations Demonstrations –After exams (13 th and 14 th of June 2016) S2 10%

8. Final Date for Ordering Hardware, PCB production or mechanical work –Electronic store has being allocated at T134 –Please look at Stores notice board for final dates on ordering and place it in your Module guide (in boxes on page 3) as You will not be able to order parts or request work to be done for your project after this date. Check the electronic stores parts list before requesting an external order. Chris Merridan (manages storeroom) may be able to suggest an alternative part that we have in stores so consult with him beforehand. If you order parts that have to be brought in from a previously unused company there will be a long delay because it has to go through the University purchasing system. This will be at least 2-3 weeks (this is relevant ALL year)!

9. Requesting other services NEVER spend your own money! You will not get it back Register with the stores (you can obtain the form from the stores) and anything you need that requires spending money can then be requested via Chris in the electronic stores (after you have permission from your supervisor). There is a budget and that is to be discussed with your supervisor he/she must sign off anything you need. If you require something more expensive the School may still buy it, but you will need to explain why you need it, sign it out and return it at the end of your project. (NOTE: You can not graduate if you do not return loaned equipment!) –WARNING: Do not give to your supervisor to return-They forget! –All purchases must be signed off by your supervisor and if expensive by the HOD (Dr. Steve Alty) : He will require evidence of why that purchase is required, like any line manager.

10. Report Submission You must submit your final report and all CW elements on time. –You must follow the Font, type, length rules provided in the Module Guide. Significant marks wills be lost if you fail to do so. Final reports-Two copies (see page 3 of MG) 1 to your supervisor (Hardbound) and 1 to Mr. Ya Bao (Spiral bound) but without supervisors name on title page. Late submission will be penalised –NO EXTENSIONS GIVEN –< 2 weeks (10 working days) late maximum mark 40%. –> 2 weeks (10 working days) late report will not be marked, you will receive 0% and have failed that piece of the project module.

11. Extenuating Circumstances If you have a problem that may affect your submission you must apply for extenuating circumstances using the form obtainable from the School office. When you do this, your project will be marked normally and the extenuating circumstances committee, not me or your supervisor, will decide what to do. If your claim fails your report will be marked as previously stated There is no point sending me or your supervisor emails about your problems. We are NOT ALLOWED TO HELP YOU DIRECTLY! You must apply for extenuating circumstances!

12. Remember You must see your supervisor regularly. You must have at least 8 meetings! I will accept meetings with industrial supervisors for part-time students. You must submit on time. You must attend the presentation. It is a formal examination you now know the dates. Failure to do any of these 3 things will most likely lead to you failing your project. If you repeat your mark will be capped to 40%!

13. Weekly lectures Week 1: Today Week 2: Sandra and Tony Week 3: Jonathan Speed on the Project labs/equipment availability etc (as last year). Invited talks from mitie, Google, TubeLines, Huawei and others will finalise dates and let you know.

14. Finally Good Luck! Your project is extremely important, it makes up about 25% of your final degree mark. Work Hard and work on your project every week, every day. Embrace new things, just because you haven’t directly covered something you need for the project does not mean you cannot do it. This is what the project is all about- Challenge and Achievement! Prospective employers will ask you about it at interview and may want to see your final report. It is a chance you can apply the knowledge gained from the classroom to solve a real problem.
