UNDERSTANDING YOUR PSAT SCORES Warrior Wednesday

Your PSAT Score Report Scores are reported in 3 sections. Critical Reading Math Writing Skills For each section, you will see 2 scores. Just below each section, you will see a large number. This is your raw score. Below the raw score you will see a percentile score. The percentile tells you how you scored in comparison to other students who took the test.

Your PSAT Score Report Look at the top of your score report now and find both your raw and percentile scores. If you scored below the 50 th percentile on one of the sections, think about attending some of the tutoring sessions to help you improve your score. Below these scores you will see a Selection Index score. This is a score used by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to screen students for some scholarships. Your Selection Index percentile compares you to other students who plan to attend college.

Your Skills Each of the skill categories under the reading, math and writing sections can help you understand your score and know which areas you need to focus on during your preparation.

Your Answers Listed below YOUR SKILLS, you will see a section called YOUR ANSWERS. This section will tell you what the correct answer was to each question and how you answered the question. It also gives you an indication as to whether the question was considered an easy, medium or hard question. Question and answer explanations are available at www.collegeboard.org/quickstart www.collegeboard.org/quickstart

Calculating the score For each correct answer, you earn 1 point For each omitted answer, you earn 0 points For each wrong answer to multiple-choice questions, you lose ¼ point. For each wrong answer in the math section 29-38 you lose no points. Points are totaled and then converted to a scale of 20-80.

NEXT STEPS Go to www.collegeboard.com.org/quickstart to see what your projected SAT score would be and to find college information.www.collegeboard.com.org/quickstart If you scored below the 50 th percentile on the PSAT, you should consider taking the ACT instead of the SAT. Many students find that they have better success with the ACT since it is achievement test that is more like tests they have at school. Most colleges will accept either.
