She handed the man a piece of paper. What is she doing? – handing (V) Who or what handed? – She (S) She handed what? – piece (DO She handed piece to whom? – man (IDO) Follow the line of questioning and get the answers. Trust what you are doing!

PREDICATE NOMINATIVES
Find the linking verb The verb in a sentence having a predicate nominative can always be replaced by the word equals. Examples: Mr. Johanson is a teacher. Mr. Johanson equals a teacher. I am a careful driver. I equal a careful driver. Mary was a mother’s helper. Mary equals a mother’s helper.

PREDICATE ADJECTIVE Find the linking verb
In a sentence having a predicate adjective the PA describes the subject.. Examples: Mr. Johanson looks happy. happy Mr. Johanson Sue is beautiful. beautiful Sue. Mary was angry. angry Mary
