Individual Leadership Assignment 1. You are a leader. 2. You have influence in some area of your life. 3. Will your leadership be positive or negative? 4. Give examples

QUOTE: “There are no bad teams only bad leaders.” Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Choose a side, either agreeing or disagreeing with the quote. Next, select a leader or leaders (historical, famous, sports, personal, woman, man, etc.) and prove or disprove this statement through their life/lives.

3 REASONS Provide at least 3 reasons from your leader’s or leaders’ life and then give at least one example for each reason to prove your point. Your reasons will be just a one or two sentence statement.

1 POWERFUL EXAMPLE Your examples should be facts that are detailed and specific. You must do research to find your facts. When you find your facts that support your reasons, cite your source. You must prove your position through your reasons & facts.

Research:Finding Facts Leader: Todd Dodge Reason #1: No one has success all of the time Facts from Research: Southlake Carroll7 years and 4 State Champions (98-11) record, National Coach of the year in 2004 & 2005 UNT2007-20106-37 record/ removed from his job

Leader: Rick Carlisle Reason # 2: Perseverance due to bad teams Facts from Research: Success as a player & a coach, led his teams to the playoff 9 times in his first 10 seasons. Led the Dallas Mavericks to their first ever 2011 World Champions. One of only 11 individuals to win an NBA championship as both a player and as a head coach. He has had patchwork players and make shift rosters the last few years and was unable to make the playoffs. Doesn’t complain or make excuses just keeps pushing his players

Leader: Tom Landry Reason #3: Innovation- good systems bad players Facts from Research: Wen 0-11-1 in his first season with the cowboys. Had 20 consecutive winning seasons, 18 post season appearances, 13 division championships, 5 FFC titles. Invented the 4-3 flex defense. Revised the shot gun offense in the NFL. Last season went 3-13 and was dismissed as head coach by Jerry Jones.

Leader: Jim Jones Reason #1:Charisma Facts from Research: Had the skills to be a preacher. In high school at a pep rally for a basketball game, he decided to stage an elaborate funeral for the opposing team. He started preaching. It was like the real thing, but was intended to be a joke. He was self- confident on stage. People were mesmerized and drawn to what he said.

Jim Jones Reason #2:Persuasive Facts from Research: Became a pastor of a poor, white Methodist church. Then he started his own church called Peoples Temple. Using remarkable healing and preaching, he persuaded his congregation to follow all his teachings (doing whatever he said, such as no sports or dancing) and giving him all their possessions. His members entrusted him with everything they owned.

Jim Jones Reason #3: Deception: Facts from Research: Jones told his followers that soldiers would come for them and torture them. He ordered everyone to commit what he called a “revolutionary act.” The youngest members were the first to die. Then the adults drank the poison. 909 people died needlessly on Nov. 18, 1978 because they believed all of his lies. His followers were deceived that they were going to be killed, so they took their own lives and the lives of their children.
