4. Independent variable A variable that is presumed to cause or determine a dependent variable. Dependent variable A variable that is assumed to depend on or is caused by another variable.

5. Idiographic An approach to explanation in which we seek to exhaust the idiosyncratic cause of a condition or event. Nomothetic An approach to explanation in which we seek to identify a causal factors that impact a class of conditions or events.

6. Induction Logical model in which general principles are developed from specific observations. Deduction Logical model in which specific expectations of hypotheses are developed on the basis of general principles.
