CDC Report Current trend in physical activity – adolescents & young adults ½ participate regularly in vigorous physical activity ¼ report no vigorous physical activity ¼ walk or bicycle nearly every day Males participate more than females Participation declines with as age or grade increases Daily attendance in physical education declined from 42-25%

Healthy People 2010 Goals Increase to 35% proportion of adolescents who engage in moderate physical activity for at least 30 minutes on 5 or more of the previous 7 days. Increase to 85% proportion of adolescents who engage in vigorous physical activity that promotes cardiorespiratory fitness 3 or more days per week for 20 or more minutes per occasion.
