AIMS To show you what playbags are and how they can be used at home To explain to you why they are so important To explain how the project will be organised

What is the Playclub Project? The project involves Playclub Bags… What are Playclub bags? Bags for young children to take home from school to use with their parents/carers to develop their phonics, early language & literacy skills. The bags include: an activity card high quality and durable resources a CD to explain the activities and teach relevant songs and rhymes A photo of the resources in each bag A reminder about when to return your bag

Parents’ responses Until we had the bags I hadn’t really done anything with MacKensie – now we’re reading every night. She loved the props with the books. Now she’s trying to read all the time –billboards and shop names She rhymes herself all the time now - 'giggle wiggle - that rhymes Mummy'. She's so excited about it. It's brilliant. She did it about a million times - over and over. I can see its really really helping her learn. She wasn't stopping - she woke up daddy to dance. We all danced round the kitchen. We haven't had so much fun for ages. It makes it easier if you have English as a second language to have something visual in front of you …..and its great to have the CD telling you what to do and giving you all the tunes which you just don’t know if you didn’t grow up here

Organisation You will be able to borrow 1 bag each week. In total you can borrow 6 bags. You will be given a bag to take home every Wednesday which you must return each Tuesday. Please give the bags to your child’s class teacher or teaching assistant. Each child will have a Playclub card which will be stamped each week. Please write a comment if possible about what you thought of each bag. If you need extra support please see Mrs Robinson or Ms Shaw.

Completing the project When the project is finished we will have a coffee morning to talk about your thoughts about the project. If you complete the project and attend the coffee morning you and your child can have a special certificate in assembly and a free CD to take home. Due to the cost of the bags if you lose a small item you will be asked to contribute £1 and if you lose a big item you will be asked to contribute £2.50 towards the cost of buying new resources.
