Read the profile of Mark Holland on page 35. After you have read the profile, the class will be divided into 2 teams. One team will be on the “Affirmative” side, leaving the remaining team as the “Opposition.”

You have one half hour to brainstorm your arguments in a manner that best supports your position on the matter.

While this will be an informal debate, decorum and some semblance of procedure is expected.

1. One person presents their argument at a given time. 2. Should opposition to the initial viewpoint arise, the opposing team will respectfully disagree and state their reasons for doing so. 3. The moderator will open/close the debate and monitor its proceedings.

Student #1: I think the voting age should (not) be lowered to 16 years of age because (Affirmative Reason #1) Student #2: I disagree. I think the voting age in Canada should not (should) be lowered to 16 years of age because (Opposition Reason # 1)
