Do Now: on a scale of 1-4 what do you score your self when it comes to simplifying radicals and why? After we get partners you are going to the Ouchi website or edmodo and download today’s lesson.
2
SWBAT construct, analyze, and write expressions involving square roots in simplest radical form with at least 70% accuracy by the end of class and will compare solutions with a partner to determine the accuracy of their own solution SWBAT design, analyze, and match equivalent expressions involving square roots with at least 70% accuracy by the end of class and will compare solutions with a partner to determine the accuracy of their own solution.
3
TRY following these steps… A square root is in simplest form if it has no factors that are a perfect square. To simplify a square root, write it as a product of a perfect square and another factor. Find the square root of the perfect square and write it outside the square root symbol. Rewrite the remaining factor inside the square root symbol. The value of a simplified square root is always positive. If that didn’t work TRY THESE.. Use our Unit 4 Lesson 1 notes and summary of math as a guide Use your square root chart created in lesson 1 Use our properties of exponent worksheets as a guide. Use a factor tree Check your work/work backwards Ask a partner Ask a student tutor Use this example as a guide
4
Simplify each expression, making the number inside the square root symbol the smallest whole number possible. Show ALL your work otherwise, NO credit will be given. Remember, If you get stuck, use out hints and suggestions in our previous slide. Level 1-2 Level 3-4
5
Show ALL your work otherwise, NO credit will be given. Level 1-2 Level 3-4 Self-Scoring Rubric for your level: In order to receive a 4 you must get all of them correct In order to receive a 3 you must get 5 of the 6 correct. In order to receive a 2 you must get 4 of the 6 correct. You will receive a 1 if you only answer 3 or less correctly.

Simplify the expressions, making the number inside the square root symbol the smallest whole number possible. Show ALL your work otherwise, NO credit will be given. *If you had trouble up until this point, what is one topic you would like for us to review? Level 1-2 Level 3-4 Self-Scoring Rubric for your level: In order to receive a 4 you must get both of them correct In order to receive a 2 you must get 1 of the 2 correct. You will receive a 1 if you do not get any of the 2 correct

Work with a partner & take turns matching an expression card to an equivalent expression card. When you match a pair, explain to your partner how you know the expressions are equivalent. Show ALL your work otherwise, NO credit will be given. Yellow and silver level 1-2 Green and blue level 3-4 For every explanation use at least 3 of the following words {simplest radical form, square roots, Simplify, rational numbers, radicand, perfect squares, greatest, factor, expression, divisibility rule} Self-Scoring Rubric for level 1-2: In order to receive a 4 you must match all 8 cards correctly. In order to receive a 3 you must match 6 out of 8 cards correctly. In order to receive a 2 you must match 4 out of 8 cards correctly. You will receive a 1 if you match 2 or less cards correctly Self-Scoring Rubric for level 3-4: In order to receive a 4 you must match all 10 cards correctly. In order to receive a 3 you must match 8 out of 10 cards correctly. In order to receive a 2 you must match 6 out of 10 cards correctly. You will receive a 1 if you match 4 or less cards correctly *Remember, If you get stuck, use out hints and suggestions in our previous slide. Yellow and silver level 1-2 Green and blue level 3-4

Do you think you met today’s objectives? If so, explain which one (or both), tell me why, and with what accuracy/percentage. If not, explain why not.

Today’s objective was ________. In order to be successful in todays lesson I need to know how to __________________ in order to ___________. Today I used the mathematical standard number____ which is _______________ because____________. Another mathematical standard I used was number____, ____(name of standard)____ because____________. Overall, today’s material was __________ for me and I give myself a score of a _______ because _________. Today I met/did not meet the objective so I still need to take the following steps___________ This will help me because_________ One question I still have is_________ Reflection: In a paragraph and using complete complex sentences, fill in the blanks. You may use any of our vocabulary words we went over today Vocabulary: {simplest radical form, square roots, Simplify, rational numbers, radicand, perfect squares, greatest, factor, expression, divisibility rule} Scale of 1 to 4, (1 being I am completely lost and need a lot of help; 2 being I am confused about certain steps to take; 3 being I know this but cannot teach it; and 4 I can teach this to the class no problem)
