Focus on the Context of the Era (class content) and how these images Reinforced stereotypes and created others. How did these strengthen “Nativism” and create greater abuse, inequality, and division in the US????

3 WHO WERE THE KNOW- NOTHINGS? The Know - Nothing Party, also known as the American Party, was a prominent United States political party during the late 1840s and the early 1850s. The American Party originated in 1849. Its members strongly opposed immigrants and followers of the Catholic Church. They strove to curb immigration and naturalization, but met with little success. Membership was limited to Protestant men. There were few prominent leaders, and the largely middle-class membership fragmented over the issue of slavery; thus, creating additional images that were also very Negative toward African- Americans and other minorities using “so-called Science.”naturalization The most prominent leaders were U.S. Representative Nathaniel P.
