The Project (Academic Division): Wrap-Around Model vs. Content Support Model Academic division ‘s vision, strategy, goals and the plan for implementation of strategic change initiative. Human performance indicators and outcomes based perspective for assessment of project success. Transitioning to the Wrap-Around (Academic Department) Direct implications for existing departmental Operations = impact on Course Developers, Instructional Designers, Curriculum Specialists and Production Teams. Increased use & reliance on use of and creation of OER Content Emphasis on authentic learning activities in the online environment Emphasis on driving and supporting independent study at the individual level and collaborative group interactions for team skills development 2

Characteristics Collaborative Iterative Flexible Creative Responsive Lean Support Strategies used by department (Team Level) Emphasis on cross- functionality Emphasis on interactions Emphasis on usable deliverables Emphasis placed on rapid and decisive response to change initiatives 3

While the speed of change has increased, many employees are not prepared for current or future challenges…to bridge these gaps, learning strategies will need to become more agile and respond far more quickly to change with the minimum gap between “need identified and learning deployed.” (Miles, 2013) Key Features for departmental staff: Rapidity Responsiveness Targeted Approaches Lean 4

Agile course redesign is strongly embedded in the real, external world…The main advantage of agile design is that it focuses directly on preparing students for a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world. It aims explicitly at helping students develop…specific skills they will need in a digital age, such as knowledge management, multimedia communications skills, critical thinking, innovation and digital literacy embedded within a subject domain (Bates, 2015). Key Features for Learners: Real-world relevance Flexibility Nimbleness 21 st Century Skills 5

Individuals create society, which in turn creates individuals. This is a recursive process, and as such it breaks the concept of linearity and a causal linear relationship between input and output underlying most traditional organizational thinking (Browaeys & Fisser, 2012; Morin, 2005). Key Elements for Project Success: Iterative Collaborative Creative Opportunity 6

The Strategy – Why? Achieving agility in learning design How did we improve the potential for engaged learning experiences in course design and development? Using Open Education Resources Location of suitable content and integration Which can assist with: rapid development of learning activities and assessments to acquire, retain and transfer knowledge and specific abilities Which is linked to: adding value to a learner centric model for achievement of 21st century collaborative skills and reflection in online learning Which can encompass: Agile learning design and related outcomes Technology driven human performance indicators 7

Interrogation of processes prior to 2014 Re-engineering of processes: design of templates, revision of protocols, redesign of collaborative work spaces Project Management Approach: Targets, Risk Assessment (weekly meetings with stakeholders; debriefing at end of each stage of content development; Contingencies; Content development phases and streamlined work processes 9

Human performance - departmental leadership; effectiveness of teams Processes – project inputs and outputs Lessons learned Multimedia requests linked to named categories of generative strategies Need to focus on quality online learning activities in Higher Education Need for all activities (team, including SME) to be linked to strategies of RECALL, INTEGRATION, ORGANIZATION AND ELABORATION throughout project implementation 10
