Today’s Lesson: What: transformations (Translations)... Why: To introduce transformations and begin performing translations. What: transformations (Translations)... Why: To introduce transformations and begin performing translations.
2
What is a transformation?? A transformation refers to a specific way a figure in geometry is either changed or __________________ to create a different image. 4 Types of Transformations: 1)Translation 2) Reflection A AIAI A AIAI moved

3)Rotation 4)Dilation A AIAI Let’s focus on translations... A AIAI
4
AAIAI PRE- IMAGE IMAGE We call this “A___________.” First things first...
5
Perform the following translations: 1)Translate the figure (2, -4): This means two units to the RIGHT and four units DOWN!
6
Perform the following translations: 2)Translate the figure (-3, 1): This means three units to the LEFT and ONE unit up!
7
Perform the following translations: 3)Translate the figure (-4, -4): This means four units to the LEFT and four units DOWN!
8
Perform the following translations: 4)Translate the figure (6, -2): This means six units to the RIGHT and two units DOWN!
9
1)If point A is located at (2, 5) and is translated three units to the left and two units up, where would A 1 be? 2)If point A is located at (-4, 2) and is translated five units to the right and four units down, where would A 1 be? (-1, 7) (1, -2)

END OF LESSON The next slides are student copies of the notes for this lesson. These notes were handed out in class and filled-in as the lesson progressed. NOTE: The last slide(s) in any lesson slideshow (entitled “Practice Work”) represent the homework assigned for that day.
