Understand ways American citizens use their voting rights to limit the power of government 3. Explain how the Judiciary has contributed to expanding access to the ballot box

5 BOOK REVIEW MAJOR ISSUES BOOK PROJET OVERVIEW: The major role of the government, as defined by the “Preamble of the Constitution” or any other major government constitution in the US is to promote the general welfare of the people. Over the years, the nation, the States and the local communities continually pass legislation to assist in improving the lives of everyday Americans. Sometimes these solutions work and sometimes they do not. In the end, it’s the citizens that determine which issues are priorities and which are left to be addressed in the future. PURPOSE: The main focus of this assignment is to have students read about a particular social issue impacting the community. The goal is to have them become better informed about one particular topic and understand how the issue is being addressed.

6 BOOK REVIEW MAJOR ISSUES BOOK PROJET TASKS: 1.Read the book you selected about an issue in America that impacts the General Welfare of all of us. 2.Identify the problem 3.Write one sentence summaries of each chapter 4.Summarize the overall content of the book 5.Answer a series of Analysis questions 6.Review the book 7.Make Copies of Cover Page and Table of Contents and Back Cover 8.Prepare a presentation / Presi discussing the book 9.Make sure you use the rubrics provided to ensure completion ASSIGNED: 10.07.2015 DUE: 11.04.2015

7 WHY PRINCIPLES of GOVERNMENT CAREER CHOICE Careers in this cluster include Governance; National Security; Foreign Service; Planning; Revenue and Taxation; Regulation; and Management and Administration at the local, state, and federal levels. The purpose of this course is apart of a strand of course that will expose you to various aspects of governance at all levels. From the Local level through the national level. The purpose being to prepare you to potentially make career choices in this field. Not only is there class room training but included will be field trips, enrichment opportunities and eventually an Internship with the city of Austin or possibly State or National elected leaders.

8 WHY PRINCIPLES of GOVERNMENT CAREER CHOICE In order to enhance your experiences and provide you with real-world like experiences the program expects students to be involved in extra-Career and Technology Organizations. For this field that program is: - Texas Youth & Government - Each student is expected to be involved through the District Level (11.21) which will count up to 25% your Semester Exam - You can choose to participate in one of three fields: A. Mock Legislature B. Mock Trial (2-6 Participants) C. State Affairs (2 Person Teams)
