The need for interactive video assessment tools ESL students in Listening classes: There is not enough listening practice to improve listening skills Traditional note-taking on paper and answering open-ended questions can be boring Answering open-ended questions can be very ambiguous T eachers in Listening classes: Grading paper-based listening tests is very time-consuming The work can become monotonous and students lose motivation When a video is assigned as homework, there is no way to check if the student finished watching the video What are some ways to highlight important information in a video ? 4. Interactive video assessment tools are the answer to all questions! EdPuzzle and Zaption are 2 FREE websites that allow instructors to make interactive video assessments and assign them for students to watch. These tools ● modify face-to-face instruction ● enhance blended classes ● can be used in flipped classrooms 3

Capabilities of interactive video tools 2: Record own voice over the assigned video for narration or to add additional information (in EdPuzzle) Embed custom assessment questions (true/false, multiple choice, open format) into the assigned video at any point on the video timeline Review individual student and course-level assessment analytics to identify % of students who have completed the assignment. Flipped classroom sessions: students can watch an assigned video before class time, and instructors can focus time in the face-to-face session based on the data seen in the analytics.
