4. What are the Causes?  Carbon dioxide: - Fossil Fuel - Deforestation - Carbon Sink  Methane: - Cattle and Rice Paddies - The Artic Tundra  Nitrogen Oxides: - Farming  Other Gasses

5. Carbon Dioxide  Carbon Dioxide is one of the main causes  Fossil fuels: - burning - cars - airplanes - coal plants  Deforestation: - All living plants store carbon -Carbon dioxide released every time a plant dies

6. Carbon Dioxide  Carbon Sink: - Stores carbon - Artic tundra - sinks fail, carbon released into atmosphere  Oceans: - Giant carbon sinks - stores 50 times more carbon than the atmosphere

7. Methane  100 times more powerful than carbon dioxide.  Created when: - Bacteria breaks down natural matter - Matter trapped under water - rice paddies - Intestines of herbivorous animals - cows - sheep - goats - Land fills

8. Methane  Clathrates - frozen pieces of ice and methane at bottom of ocean  As water heats ice melts releasing methane

9. Nitrogen Oxide  Traps heat 300 times more the carbon dioxide.  Get released every time a plant is fertilized

10. Other gasses  Chlorofluorocarbons and hydrochlorofluorocarbons  Used in refrigeration

11. How do you prevent Global Warming?  Reuse, reduce, recycle  Use less heating and air-conditioning  Buy energy efficient products  Plant a tree  Turn off lights when not in use
