INSTRUMENTION AND SET UPS Try having the ensemble rehearse in a circle Try having the Bari Sax and Bass Bone sit on the same side as the bass player In rehearsal have the saxes set up in a U shape so they can hear each other. Two schools of the thought: Have the bass play on the Hi Hat Side. More mature band : Have the bass play on the ride side

7. THINKING OF ADDING A VOCALIST? Have a talent show at school Find a great singer Get them to join your Jazz Band Figure out their range. Find charts in their range If you are not sure have the student listen to the recordings and hum along to figure out if it is comfortable for them and in their range. Adding a singer adds depth to your ensemble.
