The Current System Insufficient Design for both Current Needs and Expansion Insufficient Design for both Current Needs and Expansion Several Natural Springs Several Natural Springs –Concrete bed causing redirection of water –Small flow available was lost through wash out pipe –Outlet pipe was distorted –Only supplies one house
6
The New Source New Source at Higher Elevation New Source at Higher Elevation –Several natural springs –Minimum estimate of 0.3 liters per second –Well protected –Removed from possible pollutants –Large pressure head –Able to be integrated with the existing system
8
Our Proposed Design Source Development Source Development –Excavate floor bed to encompass all springs –Angled retaining walls to direct flow –Stone bed for initial filtration Tank Design Tank Design –Two tanks necessary due to high elevation –Requires the use of intermediate tank to break pressure –Possible tank bypass
9
Our Proposed Design (cont.) Piping Piping –Use GPS measurements to find appropriate pipe lengths Using an estimate of 15% to account for bends Using an estimate of 15% to account for bends –Pipe size according to flow and slope –Consider pipe strength in suction and optimal flow –Integrating with the current system at the valve to supply additional homes
10
Additional Design Possibilities Filtration Purification Filtration Purification –Concrete –Charcoal –Ceramic Chemical Purification Chemical Purification –Chlorination –New technologies and other possibilities based on research
