2. (c) Patricia Barry 2010 Les Champs Elysées La Place de la Concorde is located at the end of the Avenue des Champs Elysées It is part of the Triumphal Way between Le Louvre, Les Tuilleries, l’Arc de Triomphe and Versailles.

3. (c) Patricia Barry 2007 Place de la Concorde la Place de la Concorde is said to be the most beautiful square in Paris. It was designed by Jacques Ange Gabriel in 1755 for Louis XV It is in the shape of an octagon

4. (c) Patricia Barry 2007 La Place de la Concorde Originally it was called La Place Louis XV The original intention was to have a statue of the King mounted on his horse, surrounded by octagonal walls.

5. (c) Patricia Barry 2007 Les Champs Elysées During the Revolution, the Place changed its name to: “la Place de la Révolution” The King’s statue in the centre was replaced by the Guillotine. Here died King Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, Robespierre and thousands of French people during the Reign of Terror.

8. (c) Patricia Barry 2007 L’Obélisque The obelisk in pink stone comes from the palace of Luxor in Egypt. It was a gift from the Egyptian ruler. It is 3,300 years old. It was set up here in 1836.
