King Tutankhamun

Tutankhamun was born around 1341 B. C. E
Tutankhamun was born around 1341 B.C.E. and given the name Tutankhaten, meaning "the living image of Aten”. Tutankhamun's father was a religious radical. He changed the entire religion of Ancient Egypt to worship only the sun god Aten. He did away with over a thousand years of traditional Egyptian religion and forced people to change the way they worshiped.

After Akhenaten’s death, two intervening pharaohs briefly reigned before the 9-year-old prince, then called Tutankhaten, took the throne. Early in his reign Tutankhaten reversed Akhenaten’s reforms, reviving worship of the god Amun. He even changed his name from Tutankhaten, "the living image of Aten", to Tutankhamun, "the living image of Amun".

Tutankhamun sought to restore the old order, in the hope that the gods would once again look favorably on Egypt. He ordered the repair of the holy sites and continued construction at the temple of Karnak. He also worked in concert with his powerful advisers Horemheb and Ay—both future pharaohs— to restore Egypt’s stature in the region.

King Tut was tall but physically frail, with a crippling bone disease in his clubbed left foot. He is the only pharaoh known to have been depicted seated while engaged in physical activities like archery. Tutankhamun died around the age of nineteen. Archeologists aren't sure what killed him. Scientists have determined that the leg of his mummy was broken and badly infected before his death. This injury probably happened from an accident.

Tutankhamun was buried in a tomb in the Valley of the Kings
Tutankhamun was buried in a tomb in the Valley of the Kings. It is believed that his early death necessitated a hasty burial in a smaller tomb most likely built for a lesser noble. Tutankhamun's body was laid to rest and the tomb was sealed. There are no known records of Tutankhamun after his death, and, as a result, he remained virtually unknown. That all changed in 1922…

British archaeologist Howard Carter had been excavating Egyptian antiquities for three decades. Archaeologists believed that all the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings, had already been cleared. Funded by Lord Carnarvon, Howard Carter’s excavation team discovered King Tut’s tomb on November 6, 1922 in the Valley of the Kings. What they found made history…

Excitement about the new tomb—the most intact ever found— quickly spread worldwide. The burial chamber was first entered on February 16, To their amazement, they found much of its contents and structure miraculously intact. Inside one of the chambers, murals were painted on the walls that told the story of Tutankhamun's funeral and his journey to the afterworld. Also in the room were various artifacts for his journey—oils, perfumes, toys from his childhood, precious jewelry and statues of gold and ebony.

The most fascinating item found was the stone sarcophagus containing three coffins, one inside the other, with a final coffin made of gold. When the lid of the third coffin was raised, King Tut's royal mummy was revealed, preserved for more than 3,000 years. As archaeologists examined the mummy, they found other artifacts, including bracelets, rings and collars.

"Death Comes On Wings To He Who Enters The Tomb Of A Pharaoh"
It is recorded that during the 1920's, more than two dozen of the archaeologists died shortly after entering King Tut's tomb. Howard Carter's pet canary was killed by a cobra right after discovering King Tut's tomb.

Around the Spring of 1923, Lord Carnarvon was bitten by a mosquito on the cheek.
When shaving, he cut the mosquito bite. It got infected and then Lord Carnarvon died. At that exact moment of Lord Carnarvon’s death, all the lights in the city of Cairo mysteriously went out. Also, at the exact moment in England, Lord Carnarvon’s dog let out a howl and dropped dead.
