4 Urban League of the Upstate Urban League of the Upstate, an affiliate of the National Urban League, announced that it will award eight scholarships totaling over $100,000 in to Upstate Youth at the Annual MLK Dream Scholarship Breakfast that will take place on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 9:00 am at the Commerce Club located at 55 Beattie Place, Greenville, SC 29601. The event will feature Special Guest Speaker G. Travelle Wharton, USC Coach and Former Carolina Panther and Special Guest Cee Cee Michaela from the hit TV Show Girlfriends. Tone Hollywood of 98.1 will serve as the host for the event. This event will pay homage to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and will recognize the significant educational achievements of eight special Upstate youth. Dr. King took hold of the freedoms promised by our nation’s founding fathers and used his constitutional rights when he made his speech and developed his dream. By taking action on his dream, Dr. King was able to change the future of men, women and children, and impact so many aspects of our current society. It is this spirit that has inspired the continued theme for the 2016 MLK Dream Scholarships.

6 Unity Sports 22nd annual MLK, Jr., breakfast and program On Monday, January 18, 2016, Unity Sports will be hosting its 22nd annual Martin Luther King, Jr., breakfast and program at the historic Sterling Community Center located at 113 Minus Street, Greenville, SC 29601. A full breakfast will be served at 8:30 AM. A program honoring the memory and legacy of Dr. King will follow. The theme for this year’s program is “Love & Non- Violence Conquer Hate & Violence: A Tribute to Mother Emanuel AME Church, Charleston, SC.” The day will be concluded with a friendly soccer tournament and camp scheduled to begin at 11:30 at Sterling Athletic Field for kids up to 12 and at The Salvation Army Kroc Center for kids 13 and up.
