BELLWORK: Timeline Review Now that you have learned about the origin of humans, culture, and technology, you are going to create a review timeline. The timeline will span from 5,000,000 BC to 1 BC. Include the important events/time periods and a description of each. Events to include: Stone Age Emergence of Homo Erectus Ice Age Emergence of Homo Sapiens –Include the two types! First appearance of hominids Neolithic Revolution

African Civilizations You are now going to learn about the earliest civilizations in history – African civilizations. As early as 5000 B.C., people settled around the Nile River. As time progressed, Africans created their own governments, empires, culture, and history.

African Civilizations - Vocabulary During Egyptian civilization, they set up numerous structures of government. When learning about these types of government you must know your vocabulary!!! In your notes, define the following vocabulary words. 1.Monarchy 2.Dynasty 3.Bureaucracy 4.Empire 5.Polytheism

A mind map, or note web, is a strategy used to organize notes in a visual way. Follow the guidelines on the board. Pages 30-34

“Tomb of the Gods:” The Pyramids of Giza We are now going to watch a video on how the pyramids were made and what they were used for. Follow along with the video and answer all the questions on the board in your notes.

African Civilizations – Jigsaw Reading You are now going to read more specifically about the oldest African civilization – Egypt. While reading, you will complete “mind map” notes! In groups of three, number off 1-3. 1.Every person in the group will read a different section from your textbook. 2.When everyone is done, you will come together and share information from your section of reading 3.Everyone in the group will create a “mind map” of notes centered around their section of reading!
