Team 8 Real-Time Capture Display (RCD) Laser System Presented by Danny Barjum Team Members: Corey Lane, Ryan Scott & Danny Barjum

Project and PSSCs An ability to locate a laser pointer’s coordinates inside a given boundary using a camera. An ability to create an image based on the laser position and movement. An ability to output the display image to a monitor or projector, likely using VGA. An ability to manipulate the “paint brush” to produce different colors, and/or brush shapes. An ability to clear the image using a gesture or button “clicked” via laser.

System Requirements Microcontroller High speed clock for image processing and analysis 128 MB of memory (running embedded OS) VGA/DVI Output USB or I2c input Low power consumption Camera At least 20 fps Low operating voltage < 5V B/W is preferable I2c or USB format is preferable

Design Constraints (µC options) Intel Atom Board High processing power (100’s of MHz) VGA/DVI interface included USB interface included Free to get our hands on it. Low power consumption PCM-9371Z-J0A1E, from Advantech High processing power (400 MHz) I2c interface Ultra low voltage Celeron Up to 512 RAM VGA interface Price: $360

Design Constraints (Camera Options) Wiimote Fast fps Provides object tracking Need to remove IR filter 1024 x 768 Resolution Monochrome Webcam (Generic) 15 - 30 fps Resolution can vary Price: $30 - $120 USB interface CMOS Camera 30 – 60 fps Data format can vary Price: $15- $50 Free samples could potentially be acquired

Physical Constraints Distance of camera from screen. Camera has to be perpendicular to the screen. Laser must be brighter than anything else on the screen.
