Vertical jumping ability is of considerable importance in numerous athletic events. It is an ability that is required in most sports. Professional athletes in the NFL, NBA, WNBA train extensively to increase their vertical jump. To have an edge in competition. Coaches and physical educators have used various training methods to improve this ability. Two of the most recent training methods are isometric and plyometric exercise. e.
4
The effectiveness of such exercise in improving vertical jumping performances has been demonstrated in several studies during the past decade (Hunter,1976; Knight & George, 1972; Tanner,1971). Plyometrics is a new concept of training that applies the specificity principle regarding the pre-set stretch condition of the muscle prior to explosive contraction (Wilt, 1975). The advantage of isokinetic exercise is that the muscle work at maximal force through out of the range of motion for each and every repetition.
5
The need to further investigate the difference between the two training methods will give athletic trainers an advantage in the most current advantage in using either plyometrics or isokinetic exercises. No attempt has been made to determine document which exercise is better than the other. Therefore this study is needed to determine the most current information training purposes.
6
Many athletes success as an athlete are based on kinesiology and biomechanical principles. The purpose of this research is to study the effectiveness in training exercises between plyometrics and isometrics in vertical jumping. This research will study those principles related to training and show the advantages and disadvantages of training with isometrics and plyometrics exercise.
