2. How many countries make up the British Isles? There are Two countries. The United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. The British Isles is a group of islands that lies off the west coast of Europe. The British Isles consists of two islands: one is called Ireland and the other Britain. Republic of Ireland Ireland is a large island to the west of Great Britain. Ireland is a very beautiful island, famous for its green countryside The northeastern part of the island is called Northern Ireland, and is part of the UK. The rest of the island forms a country called the Republic of Ireland. Its capital is Dublin. They speak Irish. English is a second language.
