Facts are statements that are true, can be proven, and are accepted by the majority of people. Facts often answer the questions of Who, What, Where, When, and How. Facts may include numbers.

These statements are FACTS: › Michigan became a state on January 26, 1837. › The city of Detroit burned to the ground in 1805. › The three major industries in Michigan today are manufacturing, tourism, and agriculture (farming). › Mrs. Mahler is our principal.

Opinions cannot be proven. Opinions are statements that tell what someone thinks, feels, or believes. Opinions often use words like best, worst, good, or bad. People may have different opinions than others.

These statements are OPINIONS: › West Maple is the best elementary school in Michigan. › The Tigers baseball team will have a really good season this year. › Vegetables are very good for you, and delicious, too. › The worst team in our league is my team.
