4 S ALT LAKE C OUNTIES H ISTORY Only a couple hundred years ago the valley was empty of human structures and many trees Shoshone and Ute Indians used the area for hunting The first people who saw the area were trappers In 1847 the Mormon pioneers came into the valley This area became known as the Salt lake Area and is now the capital of Utah

5 G EOGRAPHY Salt Lake County is bordered on the east and west by mountains creating a valley. Is in the northern part of Utah Contains part of the Great Salt Lake (that is how it got its name) A view from Little Cottonwood Canyon into the Salt Lake Valley.
