Born August 04, 1901 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Died July 6, 1971 in New York, New York Commonly known as Satchmo or Pops and is well known for his raspy deep voice and comic personality. He was lead trumpeter and one of the most influential artists in jazz history. Revolutionized the Jazz genre with Scat Singing and improvised music.

As a child he grew up in poverty, working odd jobs and singing in a boys quartet. Eventually as a youth he fire off a gun for a New Years party and was arrested and taken to Colored Waifs Home as a juvenile delinquent. There he learned cornet and learned to play music by listening to others play. Took after King Oliver, a great cornetist of that time.

In 1922 King Oliver sent for Armstrong to become the second cornet in his band. His first records were “Chimes Blues” and “Tears” while still with King Oliver’s band. After this band came many more, this allowed him to grow as an artist. Between 1925-1928 he created the bands the “Armstrong Hot Five” and “Hot Seven”. Breaking out as a soloist for Jazz, band leader and all out improvizional music.

Louis Armstrong and the Hot Five was Louis first Jazz band as leader. From 1925-1928 the Hot Five recorded some of the best improvised Jazz of the time and today considered of all time. First members were: Kid Ory on trombone, Johnny St. Cyr on banjo and guitar, Lil Hardin- Armstrong on piano and Louis on trumpet and lead.

Louis Armstrong created several popular songs that are still played to this day, some of which you may of heard and not known it was him. To this day this song is a popular track used in movies and the media. Although he has a hard raspy voice, he is still able to project the imagery of the lyrics to the listeners.
