False Advertising Have you ever seen an ad for a product but small print it has a bunch of exemptions? If so that company is trying to trick you This is false advertising Here is the law "Any advertising or promotion that misrepresents the nature, characteristics, qualities or geographic origin of goods, services or commercial activities” (West's Encyclopedia of American Law). Companies will try to trick customers into buying something by not giving complete facts Many methods Some legal Some not

Methods Bait and Switch When a company advertises a product but only stocks a more expensive brand Angel Dusting When a product has a insignificant amount of an ingredient but advertises as if it had a lot False Coloring When a product has added color or a colored bag to make it look fresher

Responsibilities Businesses Must give all needed facts for a customer to make an informed decision Must not lie to trick customers Or hide info where no one looks Consumers Have to look for all important facts Be reasonable And not take everything literally

Torah Quote The following Pasuk clearly shows the Torah’s prohibition of taking advantage of people. Vayikra 19:14 לֹא תְקַלֵּל חֵרֵשׁ וְלִפְנֵי עִוֵּר לֹא תִתֵּן מִכְשֹׁל וְיָרֵאתָ מֵאֱלֹהֶיךָ אֲנִי יְהוָֹה : You shall not curse a deaf person.
