L. 2 What Chemicals Are Important for Life? Objectives: – I can explain why water is important to life – I can describe how living things use carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. – I can discuss the importance of eating a vriety of foods.

L.2 Vocabulary Solution- a mixture in which the particles are evenly mixed Carbohydrate- a sugar or starch, which we use for energy. Fat-a chemical that stores large amounts of energy. Mineral-a chemical found in foods that living things need in small amounts

L.2 Vocabulary Protein-a chemical used by living thins to build and repair body parts and regulate body activities. Vitamin-a chemical found in foods that needed by living things in small amounts.

Importance of Water Life cannot exist without water. Water is found in each of the approximately 100 trillion cells in the adult human body. When the water, sugar, and tea particles become equally mixed, they form a solution.

Carbohydrates Are sugars and starches. What are three types of carbohydrates? Energy is needed to carry on life activities. Energy comes from fuel. You may think of carbohydrates as fuel chemicals.

Fats Can be thought of a fuel chemicals. Fat store large amounts of energy that are released when they are broken down. What foods have fats in it?
